TSH
Thyroid-stimulating hormone — the best screening test for thyroid function.
Definition
TSH is made by the pituitary to drive the thyroid. High TSH means the thyroid is underactive (hypothyroidism); low TSH means overactive (hyperthyroidism). It's the single most sensitive thyroid test and usually the first ordered.
